“Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.
Sing to the LORD, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day.
Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.
For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and glory are in his sanctuary.
Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it.
Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy.
Let all creation rejoice before the LORD, for he comes, he comes to judge the earth.”
Psalm 96:1-6, 11-13
Hi,
Taking this course in a Christian university allows us to think about some of the theological issues that come up in environmental science. This week we will do just that. As you read the online notes “Christianity and the Environment” – if you haven’t already – we’re thinking about how our Christian faith influences our attitudes toward and actions in God’s creation, the natural environment around us.
If, as God says in Psalm 50 – “All the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird on the mountains, and all the animals of the field are mine … for all the world is mine and everything in it” – then how then should we live?
There are some ethical and practical issues we need to think through.
This week, please:
- Read Christianity and Environment online notes
- Lab 6 is due Tuesday, April 7 (last one). Print it off. Complete it. Scan/photo it and submit it in ONE single PDF file on Moodle. Please make sure the pages are in order and the pages are legible (if you can’t read it, neither can I).
- If you are doing the Final Project, it is due April 10. There is a folder on Moodle.
- If you choose the Final Exam, it will be on the content from the Midterm until the end of the semester, NOT the entire course. It will be Friday, April 17, 1:30-3:30 pm MH 294. A study guide is here. Students with accommodations, please coordinate with Kenzie Baker. Please email me to confirm IF you are writing the exam.
I send you weekly announcements through the Crandall Moodle site: please check your Crandall email regularly.
If you have questions, get in touch with me right away! Email works best: bruce.martin@crandallu.ca. I should respond within 24 hours on weekdays. Weekends, I take off.
